What moving house actually costs in New Zealand

Fixed prices from $70. Most moving quotes look confusing because companies price different things. Here is how our fixed-price ladder works, and what a move of each size actually costs once everything is loaded.
Fixed prices, not a running meter
We quote a fixed price before the truck moves, based on home size and access, so there is no clock ticking and no surprise line items on the day. A few items or a single-item move starts from $70. A studio or one-bedroom home starts from $320.
No deposit and no obligation. Pay after the move, not before. The right question is never 'what is your rate' — it is 'what is the fixed price for my home', and we can answer that before you book.
Realistic totals by home size
A studio or one-bedroom apartment with ground-floor or lift access starts from $320. A two-bedroom townhouse starts from $520. A three-bedroom house with a garage starts from $790. A four-bedroom home starts from $1,150, and a five-bedroom-plus home starts from $1,450.
Office moves and long-distance moves are priced individually with a fixed written quote, based on volume and distance, so you always know the total before the day rather than an open-ended estimate.
What shapes your fixed price
Access is the single biggest factor. A long carry from the truck to the door, a steep driveway, or a narrow stairwell is factored into the quote up front. Tell your mover about these before the day so the price reflects the real job.
Packing is priced separately, from $180, if you would rather not do it yourself. Booking packing ahead of time keeps the moving-day price exactly what was quoted.
Specialty items — pianos, safes, pool tables — are quoted from $390 because they need different gear and a different number of people.
How to get the best fixed price
Move mid-month and mid-week. Month-end Fridays are the busiest slots in the country and the first to book out.
Have everything in cartons and sealed before the crew arrives, with cartons stacked near the door of each room.
Disconnect appliances and take beds apart yourself if you are comfortable doing it, and tell us about access up front so your fixed price is accurate the first time.
